Our History In 1986 Gieson Motorsports was born when Jon Gieson purchased what was formerly Bob Kent Yamaha, a single line dealership of only 4000 square feet located on the main business thoroughfare in Rock Falls, IL. At that time the business was staffed only by Jon himself and two additional employees. The Kawasaki motorcycle, ATV and PWC lines were added in 1988.
Due to the increasing size of the product lines and the need for additional service space, Gieson Motorsports moved to it’s current location at 800 E. Route 30 in Rock Falls in January of 2000. The new facility was previously a trucking company with a 15,400 square foot building situated on 14 acres. Also in 2000, the Suzuki motorcycle and ATV lines were added.
While the existing building supplied much of the necessary space, additional space was needed for the display of pre-owned machines, so a separate building of 2,450 square feet was erected in the summer of 2002, bringing total square footage to 17,850. The previous industrial use of the building did not lend itself to the polished appearance needed in today’s motorsports dealership, so in the spring of 2003 RDA design consultants developed a new internal floor plan and external facade. Gieson Motorsports underwent a major face-lift from the fall of 2003 to the spring of 2004.
Gieson Motorsports currently carries Yamaha and Kawasaki motorcycle, ATV, watercraft and side by side lines, Yamaha snowmobiles and Suzuki motorcycle, ATV and side by sides.
In contrast to the days of only two employees, 11 people now find employment at Gieson Motorsports. Included is Jon’s wife Linda, who left her position as vice-president of Mallard manufacturing to join the family in 2003, daughter Johnna, who is the general manager, and son-in-law Derek, who is the sales manager. So it is clear to our customers that at Gieson motorsports you truly are among family. 2012 should prove to be an exciting year as Jon and Linda gear up to celebrate their 26th year in business.
Jon and Linda are both extremely active in the development of their community. Jon has served as Chamber President and is currently on the Rock Falls Community Development boards. He has been recognized by the Chamber as a recipient of the "Shoulder to the Wheel" award. This prestigious award is given to one person each year that is nominated for their lifelong dedication to the Rock Falls community.
